Biography



SimoneSimone van der Vlugt (1966) is an acclaimed Dutch writer, well known for her young adult novels. The reunion was her debut novel for adults, that sold over 200,000 copies and was translated in German, French and English.

Simone van der Vlugt was born in Hoorn (1966) and she lives with her husband ans two children in Alkmaar, The Netherlands.

At a very young age she started writing novels. Her greatest wish was to become a writer. Afther studying French and Dutch she succeeded and rapidly developed into one of the Netherlands’ most important authors of historical novels for young readers.

These books are all youth novels that have been highly acclaimed by both children’s and adult juries. Van der Vlugt is seen as the successor of Thea Beckman, (“Crusade in jeans”) and like this well-known Dutch author, she thoroughly researches her historical novels, gathering all kinds of information, even postcards and posters of paintings as well as, where possible, taking pictures of the specific places in her novels.

Simone van der Vlugt is married and mother of two children; a son (1995) and a daughter (1993). She’s a fulltime writer now and gives lectures to Dutch scholars with great pleasure.

The historical youth books of Simone van der Vlugt have been translated in
several languages.
